The hypothetical average nomadic tribe (any given example of which probably is different from this in at least one aspect) looks something like:

– lives in the region shadow of the storm walls where you really can’t do high intensity farming
has to keep moving (usually in the same rotation as the storm has to have wind at their backs) to let the land recover
– probably has livestock + forage cultivation (ie, seasonally tend to mushroom caverns, fruited scrubs, but not farms)
– being nomads in storm country makes storm magic crucial, crystals can cover the nightly sleet if they have a source, but aren’t reliable enough in crisis
– probably have tribe specific trials that somewhat reliably can lead to an aspirant getting storm magic if they survive (ie, climb Mt Ordeal, meditate at the peak during a lightning storm). People definitely die trying, but having sufficient magic users is a life or death matter for the whole group!
– Not really a cohesive nation due to resource and communication restrictions, but have a connected culture linked together by scheduled meetings, festivals, exchanges (not usually more than a large village of people meet up in any one occasion in most circumstances)
– Don’t really get along with groups that section off land, but do appreciate the resources fair trade and industry can provide
– if it’s time to starve or freeze to death or go raid someone for resources, that’s a decision point that can end in violence
