Exerpt from A Adventurer’s Guide to the Word: …Now we get to the Kingdom of Curico, located near the center of the land. This kingdom surrounding the Abyssal Lake (aptly named, as we will see later). Three major and three minor cities constitute the kingdom, all on the edge of this mysterious lake. The city is ruled by a council of elected officials from each of the cities, each having equivalent vote.

Their economy is largely based around the lake, with a significant amount of the jobs you might find, even for a fledgling adventurer like yourself, being related to the lake. Whether it is fishing, or dredging up some unknown relics, or fighting monsters from the depths…just ensure you learn how to swim first. This is where I must warn you, my dear adventurers, work in Curico is not for beginners. The lake is an extremely dangerous region, with creatures the size of houses being common near the surface. This is a dangerous regions region.

This brings us to the people. The dangers of the region and the work have shaped the culture over the years. When not working, the peasantry spend a lot of time their time drinking, dancing, and generally having fun. They, after all, don’t know when they will permanently return to the lake. The nobility tends to be far more somber, and let me be blunt, boring. They tend to work the more cerebral professions, such as research and management. The curican culture is very unforgiving. If you can’t work in the lake then you are of no use. Vagabonds are found all across the land but are in higher density near the docks of Curico. While the people of Curico have a culture of drinking rum, dancing, and generally just a devil may care attitude, this does not extend to visitors.

Do not expect to be immediately accepted into the city, as the Curicans generally do not trust outsiders. They are, after all, very secretive people. If you manage to integrate yourself, you would do yourself a great service if you do not learn any magic from the populace, as they are far and above some of the more skilled magic users when it comes to channeling the Aether of water or air. They have also been known to partake in some peculiar dark magic, albeit your humble guide was never able to get the people to trust him enough to teach him.

The city does have an army, as they have had to repel a few would be invaders. While it is not highly advanced or large by any means, years of working near the lake has made the soldiers highly skilled. Combine that with the mysterious magicks that the curicans are known to practice, make them a force to be reckoned with. Now, the food….(edited)👍1
